What is it?

The Life in the UK Test 21, a way to practice the mock test for the real exam, The life in the UK test, also known as the British Citizenship Test, was instituted by the British government in 2005 with the aim of educating those wishing to apply for permanent residence in the UK about the country’s diverse culture, customs, institutions, and lifestyle.

According to immigration regulations, applicants seeking British citizenship or indefinite leave to remain (i.e., permanent settlement in the UK) must fulfill the “Knowledge of language and life in the United Kingdom” (KOLL) criteria. The English speaking and listening proficiency requirement has been raised to Level B1 (ESOL Entry 3) or above for applicants, in addition to passing the Life in the UK Test. You are not required to speak English if you are from a nation where it is the official language, such as the United States or Australia.

Important to note for all exams as well as the Life in the UK Test: 21

There are twenty-four multiple-choice questions on the exam. In order to pass (75%), you must properly answer at least 18 questions. You have forty-five minutes to finish the exam. It needs to be completed in English. But when you make your reservation, you can ask to take the test in Welsh or Scottish Gaelic if you’re in Scotland or Wales.  Life in the UK Test 21 and all other tests like that on our website are to help you practice and be ready for the real exam.

The Home Office’s official learning materials serve as the foundation for every question on the exam. This information may be found in the third edition of the study book Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents. This may be accessed online or ordered in hard copy here.

The exam will be administered solely on computers, which will be supplied by the testing facility.

70% of people pass the test, based on statistics from tests completed between 2009 and 2014. You may listen to questions via headphones. The pass rate is higher for citizens of EU member states (86%) than for non-EU citizens (68%). Currently, scheduling a test costs £50.00.

Who needs to pass it?

The majority of applicants for British citizenship or indefinite leave to remain must take the exam. You won’t have to take the test, though, if:

You are not eighteen years of age. You are older than sixty-five. You’ve completed the test before and passed.

You have a long-term medical condition or psychological disorder. You must still take the test even if you have visual or auditory impairments. Short-term conditions like depression or stress are typically not good enough justifications to be excused from the test. But since each application for an exception will be considered individually, it’s critical that you have a wealth of medical records to back up your request.
